Some hints and tips to make your sitting even more successful.
Ladies
Soft colours and pastel shades are best suited to our style of photography (this is also true for children). Avoid busy patterns - busy patterns and bright colours draw the attention of the viewer away from the person.
Long sleeves help to make a graceful portrait. An exception would be an off the shoulder dress or evening gown.
Feel free to bring along any interesting accessory - it may help toward creating atmosphere. a stronger and more personal image.
Avoid glossy make-up. The shine catches the studio flash and spoils the portrait. A fine dusting of powder will take away the shine.
Gentlemen
Although men's clothing styles are generally stronger than women's, the same rules on colours apply. "Primary" colours (bright reds, yellows, blues etc.) can spoil a portrait as they may compete for attention in the picture.
Children
It has been our experience that children who have been conditioned to “smile while you are having your photograph taken” often result in frozen smiles and stiff poses. It is much better to treat the pending visit lightly. During the photographic session allow the photographer to guide the child (unless mum's help is needed). After all, most great photos capture your child's personality rather than big, beaming smiles.
Groups
Colours that compliment each other help toward making a better image. Again, soft colours are preferable. If in doubt, lay out everyone's proposed outfit on the bed, if any one outfit appears stronger than the others try changing it.
Remember this is only a guide – the most important tip is to feel comfortable with what you have chosen to wear.
